OPERATION: TALON STRIKE

Full Mission Profile

Situation:

The recent test of North Korean nuclear capabilities and long range ballistic missiles have the world on their toes. Early this morning, a secret meeting was held by several major countries affected by North Korea having ballistic missiles capabilities; Japan, South Korea and the United states. It was decided that a small special operations contingent will deploy to the East Sea via submarine.   Upon notification, the team will deploy from the submarine and move to a small cove west of the village of Tongch’ang-dong, then move to the test/launch facility (to the southwest of the village).

Objective:

The small Special Operations team will execute a clandestine water and land insertion, observe the launch facility, and render the motor test sit unusable.

Insertion:

Conduct submarine lock-out one mile off the coast and swim to the beach where satellite imagery shows no activity. After hiding swim gear, run one mile to a high ridge overlooking the launch facility.

Actions At Objective:

Phase I

Climb back side of the ridge and lay up approximately 500 meters from the facility.   Find good cover and await radio confirmation that all is quiet.  Stay there no longer than 3 minutes to take pictures.

Phase II

Travel the 3.5 miles south over rugged terrain to the rocket motor test facility. Cut though fence and set charges to disable test capabilities.

Extraction:

Move at a fast but controlled pace back to the beach and jock up for the swim back to the submarine.

FMP WORKOUT

  • Swim 2000 yards – Combat Swimmer Side Stroke with fins
  • Run 1 mile

  • 10 Lunges

Phase II:

50-35-20

hey Coach……this was a great FMP, total time was about 2 hours, 10 minutes. Scaled the swim down to 2,000 yards, mostly due to the pool being overcrowded with kids. Did the runs with a light ruck, carrying my swim gear.

I think the fictitious scenarios give the athlete doing the FMP a little extra motivation. It’s not just simply exercising, you have a goal in mind, which helps you push through to the end.

Pretty cool post. I just found your site and wanted to say
that I’ve really liked browsing your posts. Anyway
I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you post again soon!

great workout, the best one i have seen anywhere in a while will do tomorrow. As an aspiring triathlete but operator in the CCT commnuity what in your opinion is the best way to balance tri workouts(heart rate zone and all that jazz) and strength and conditioning? I follow gym jones and mtn and military athlete and your website. i am in the best shape of my life but just looking for some extra input from a professional. thanks.
    dude out.

  4. Brett says:

This was my first time doing a FMP workout. What a great workout, thanks Coach for putting these together.
Compleated as rx’d, total time for the entire workout without stopping my watch was
    2hrs 28mins.
I agree with sandwich that having the fictious scenario really made me feel like I was working toward something more. Thanks again.

  5. Andrea B. says:

Hey Coach, finally got this done. In all, it took me two hours and 32 minutes. Still slow on the run, especially the second one. I have admittedly been slacking on squats and lunges, and since ski season ended, it’s starting to show. But overall, I think I managed my time pretty well – perhaps I could have done a few things better.
    Thanks for the workout, coach!

  6. DOPP says:

I’ll be doing this soon. However, it appears as if there is a 3.5 mile run that has been overlooked in phase II. Would this be correct?

  7. Coach says:

    DOPP-
Good eye. Assume the beach insert point and the beach extract point are different locations. Looking forward to seeing your mission stats.
    Coach

    Creative, cool

  9. DOPP says:

    DNF: Skipped final swim
Felt very bad physically on 4.5 mile run. Had to walk 3 times. Did run in 100+ degree heat. Felt cramps in chest and kidney areas. Felt a bit chilled during run. Heart elevated to 100+ for a couple of hours after. Slept horrible.

    Total Time: 1:53:40

2000y Swim: 36:16 (crawl stroke w/fins. don’t know side stroke.)
    Transition: 5:25
    1m run: 7:31
    Lunges/squats: 3:40
    push/sit: 11:24
    4.5m run: 49:24
    2000y swim: DNF

Will come back to this and do in the lake. Should be able to do swim in 30 min. without all transitions and people in pool. Will prepare better with nutrition and hydration.
